ARZM is dedicated to public awareness raising in the environmental field. ARZM acts as a catalyst to integrate public concerns to the national strategy on sustainable development. ARZM also lobbies for a more transparent flow of information from government decision-makers to the general public. Besides its main activities, oriented toward environmental issues, ARZM is networking with other national or international organizations in different domains, as human rights, health etc. to support sustainable development. In 1995 ARZM was legally registered and started publishing a bi-monthly newsletter (Buletin ARZM), which has evolved since then to a sustainable development magazine (Perspective), now in its 6th year of existence. Perspective is jointly published with the StrawberryNet Foundation. The Perspective magazine has 24 black and white pages, color covers, and is printed in 1500 copies. It has an English abstracts page, for the use of foreigners. It is distributed by subscription. A limited number of copies is distributed freely to embassies, and international organizations, with a special focus on countries neighbouring Romania, EU and the USA. Other publishing and video editing activities are currently under way at ARZM. ARZM has also a resource center, with different databases, a library and a video library. In addition to its publishing activities, ARZM also participates to national and international programs, mainly in the field of public awareness and participation (including the REC organized Open and Effective Parliaments Project, the EU and CEE NGO Dialogue, the Black Sea NGO Network, etc.). Presently, ARZM has over 100 members (in Romania, but also abroad), and a five member staff (two full-time, and three part-time). The association is governed by a Board of Directors, and managed by an Executive Director. The Perspective magazine has a separate Board of Directors, as well as an Advisory Board. Alexandru R.
